Unexpected €284 data charges

Hello all,

I recently discovered that my €8 mobile plan accumulated €284 in extra data charges without me realizing it (or being notified about). My number has now been blocked because the amount exceeded €100.

What is REALLY frustrating is that I was never clearly warned that my bundle had been exceeded and that additional charges were continuing to accumulate automatically. I did not expect the data usage to continue without a hard stop or clear notification, especially to this extent. I had no idea.

I only became aware of the situation after receiving the invoice and the message suggesting I activate a data cap in the future. If I had known earlier that I was being charged continuously outside my bundle, I would have stopped using mobile data immediately.I understand that out-of-bundle charges may exist, but I genuinely believe the final amount is disproportionate compared to my normal €8 usage and could have been prevented with clearer communication or a spending block. Is there ANYTHING I can do at this point? I’m so frustrated.

Thank you for your message. I fully understand that this is a frustrating and unexpected situation for you, especially when you receive such a high bill without being aware of it, certainly if you normally have a low monthly fee.

At Simyo, you automatically receive an SMS alert when you reach 80% and 100% usage of your internet bundle. After that, you can choose to switch off mobile data or purchase extra MBs. If you do not have a data cap, usage outside the bundle will automatically continue at the out-of-bundle rate (€0.15 per MB). In the event of high costs, your SIM card will be automatically blocked to prevent further charges.
