Extreme overcharge for internet cost (200+)

Hello,

I am writing this in complete shock and upset and I am requesting help to resolve the issue. I received a text message whilst I was out that my data had been used up, following this I set my phone to airplane mode immediately.

Once I was back on Wifi, I turned airplane mode off but kept my data off as well, when I received a message that my sim had been blocked for sudden high charges. I logged on to Simyo to see that 210 EUR have been charge to my account. I am absolutely shocked as I acted immediately to turn off the data to avoid any extra costs. Not only this, but I had previously had a cost limit set on my simcard which seems to have been removed. I have now put this back into place.

Please can I have some help to waiver or reimburse the costs somehow, as well as to unblock my Sim which is only able to be done after paying 100EUR currently. These costs are far too high, and my bills have never exceeded 60 EUR, even with internet use outside of my bundle. I have been a Simyo customer for over 2 years and have never missed a payment, and I am really shaken by this experience. I am not able to meet these extreme costs which pose an extreme financial burden. I have read that there is a delay between when the data warning text is sent and the actual data usage, and I really feel I have been trapped by this.

Thank you in advance for the help.

Hi @May99,

Thank you for your message. I am very sorry to hear about your shock regarding these unexpected costs and the block on your SIM card. I understand how frustrating it must be to receive such a high bill, especially when you tried to take immediate action to prevent extra costs.

Simyo automatically blocks the SIM card as a precaution if our system registers more than €100 per day or €250 per week in extra usage costs. Due to a delay in receiving usage data from the network (up to 4 hours in the Netherlands and up to 36 hours abroad), it is possible that you will only see this usage in Mijn Simyo later. However, the warning SMS messages at 80% and 100% of your bundle are always the most accurate indicators. You can find more about it here: https://www.simyo.nl/klantenservice/factuur/hoogverbruik

At Simyo, you can only adjust your data limit and bundles yourself via the Mijn Simyo app or website. Simyo will not automatically adjust this for you. Are you sure you set a limit previously? Just to be sure, check if you received a confirmation email at the time.

Since I understand this was not done intentionally and you made an effort to prevent it, I would like to look into this with you and see how we can assist. Could you please send me a private message with your personal details and phone number? I would be happy to help you further.

Best regards,
Shaniqua
