Incorrect Charges

I need to report an unfair charge on my bill. I was charged over 70 euros for a tiny 12 MB background data spike while traveling in Turkey.

I want to be clear: I did not use your internet. Data roaming was turned off on my personal device settings, and I was using a local eSIM the whole time This was completely an automated background leak from the 4G/5G network that I couldn't control.

Charging more than 70 euros for 12 MB that I didn't even intentionally use is crazy expensive and completely unfair. Your support on WhatsApp refused to help or escalate it.

I've now turned off "Internetten in het buitenland" in the app so your network blocks it next time. As a gesture of goodwill (coulantieregeling), please drop or credit this charge. If this isn't resolved, I'll have to take this to De Geschillencommissie and report the issue to ACM ConsuWijzer.

Hello @beforesunny,

Thank you for your message. I completely understand this must be a frustrating situation.

Internet outside the EU (such as in Turkey) falls outside your regular bundle and is charged at €5 per MB. This can unfortunately add up very quickly, even with minimal data. As a safeguard, we always send a warning SMS as soon as you enter a non-EU zone. You can find more about it here: https://www.simyo.nl/klantenservice/roaming

It sounds like your phone may have still been using your regular SIM card for background data, even while connected to your eSIM. This can sometimes happen if your settings aren't properly locked down to only use the eSIM. To avoid this in the future, we highly recommend turning off the 'Internet in het buitenland' setting in the Simyo App or your Mijn Simyo environment before traveling.

I would be happy to take a closer look to see what we can do for you regarding this bill. Could you please send me a private message with your phone number and personal details?

Kind regards,
Shaniqua
