Charged for calling from Netherlands to a Belgian number

Hi,

I recently subscribed to Simyo subscription. As per the bundle/package information - calls and data within EU Zone1 are included as part of the subscribed bundle. However, when I made calls to Belgian numbers from Netherlands, I was charged out of bundle charges. Trying to understand why…

Thanks!!!

Hi JanD, Thanks for sharing the link. This clarifies the ‘how’ portion.

I find this very inconsistent. If I go to Belgium and then call from Belgium to Belgium or Netherlands or any other country it is included free till the bundle limit, However, If I call to Belgium or Germany form the Home country - Netherlands, it is charged :-) . I am leaving Simyo as fast as I joined, but alas, not fast enough:

European rules cause that. Roam like at home forces providers to ask certain tariffs while someone is roaming. This causes zone 1 to zone 1 WHILE ROAMING, to be within the bundle. In The Netherlands, you are not roaming, so that same rule does not apply in that case. That rule does not interfere with the internal market, which the tariffs for calls from providers own network to zone 1 countries are seen as.

I believe many providers (“Ben”, “Simpel”, “Hollands Nieuwe”, "Lebara” just to call a few [Lebara does have a bundle to make that included]) will therefore charge you extra for NLD to zone 1 calls/SMS.

If calls to foreign countries are that important, you should really research which provider offers a good deal on that...

Thanks for the explanation, but before Simyo, I have used vodafone, ziggo, KPN, Lebara, Lyca etc. but never came across this type of billing. The calls and data from anywhere to anywhere within Europe zone 1 were always included in the bundle. No distinction was made between calling from home country vs. any other EU zone1 country.

You must have chosen a special bundle with those providers allowing you to call EU numbers from within The Netherlands using your bundle allowance. This is not standard practice, and unfortunately Simyo does not offer such a bundle. So it’s time to shop around elsewhere like @Groentjuh said.

Hi @AmolG

Please don't make it to difficult for yourself. Vodafone has different plans, sort of bundles. You can't compare Simyo with Vodafone. Each provider works different.

KPN itself indeed offers this service. That’s why my business phone is actually KPN. NL to zone 1 is included within these bundles.

Lebara I did already mention has a bundle for that, but will charge extra if you do not have that.

Lyca was tariff pages for international calling and roaming. And I therefore do believe they may be charging different rates between NL → zone 1 and zone 1 (roaming) to zone 1.

ZiggoVodafone depends on your subscription as this page states.
