My iphone 17 (bought in the US) keeps telling me my phone does not have an eSim, therefore I cannot connect my new Simyo eSim bundle to my iphone. I am moving to the netherlands in a week so I need to have a dutch number for various different reasons.

Do you want a regular plan witfh a Dutch number or prepaid?

A moderator, an employee will also give an reaction for further steps to help you.

You need a fysic simcard from Simyo starting with 06xxxxx (+316xxxxxx)

Not necessarily. @lilyburks has an iPhone 17 (like me) and this phone is definitely compatible with eSIMS. What @lilyburks seems to be saying is that after trying to install the Simyo eSIM, the eSIM is not recognised by the iPhone. Somebody needs to guide @lilyburks (who may not be familiar with Dutch) through the process of installing an eSIM.

Could you post a screenshot of the message?

Yes, Scotsman is correct!

I have an iphone that uses eSim and I can add another eSim, but my iphone (possibly because it was bought in the US?) is not working with the dutch eSim. I have read that someone who works at Simyo can reach out and send a QR code that overrides the app and allows me to access the installation instructions of the eSim onto my phone. Each time I try to login with my dutch phone number, it gives me the screenshot from above.

Does anyone have any information about a simyo number I can call? I have tried reaching out to a customer service number on whatsapp, but im not sure if the number was correct because I found it online, not on the simyo website.

Thank you!!

@Scotsman

Hoe mag ik dit begrijpen?  Wordt de ESim van Simyo niet herkent omdat het een Amerikaanse telefoon is?

Edit

I am following the way that @Scotsman did follow for @lilyburks .

(Deeple translate app)

How should I interpret this? Is Simyo’s eSIM not being recognised because it’s an American phone?

[writing in English so that @lilyburks can follow]

The specifications of an iPhone 17 sold in different parts of the world are not the same. The most obvious difference of a US-bought iPhone 17 is that it is eSIM-only, i.e. there is no tray for a physical sim card. This means that physical sim cards which are still very common in Europe are of no use.

There are also differences “under the hood” between US and EU-bought iPhone 17’s (e.g. US batteries have a slightly larger capacity than ones sold in Europe and also network connectivity specs are slightly different) but this does not stop a US-bought iPhone 17 from being used in Europe. So there is no reason why @lilyburks ‘s iPhone should not work with Simyo, it is simply a matter of following the right procedure (which, in the case of Simyo, does not involve a QR code, you need to set up the eSIM via the Mijn Simyo app). For this it is not necessary to have a cellular (mobile) connection, a solid WiFi connection will also work, even when abroad.

Looks like the Simyo app doesn’t like his iPhone though, based on the screenshot he posted.

I suspect there is another issue here, my iPhone 17 (admittedly UK bought, not US) had no problems with the Simyo eSIM whatsoever. Maybe deleting and re-installing the Mijn Simyo app and trying again will help. (Hopefully the app is available on the US app store).
