Hi, just an FYI for the community.

I recently switched to Simyo from Lebara after hearing good reviews. And while I can attest to Simyo 4g being speedy and reliable, I have to start a negative conversation as to how Simyo seems to trick new customers.

Essentially, I received an email to say that my new sim card was active, but if you open the email, a little further down it says that your bundle has not started yet, lists the costs for using mobile data out of bundle (15c per mb data). So i want to complain about two things:

Firstly, if you receive emails on your phone like 99.9% of the population, the email notification preview simply tells you that your sim card is active, and you don’t see the fine details about the out of bundle costs. I think it is pretty suspect to make a big deal out of the sim card being active, “Je Simyo Simcard is geactiveerd”, with the warning about out of bundle costs not mentioned until midway through the email.

My second issue is that the out of bundle costs are absurdly high - I’ve just been charged 52e for 346mb of data. I live in Amsterdam, not Antartica, so i don’t understand how they can charge such high costs. Especially considering I’ve just signed up for a contract with 10gb of data for 7 euros. The calls & texts add another 6 euro to the subscription, but for data alone is 7euros. 7 euros for 10gb of data means each mb is usually 0.07 cents unless my maths is wrong.

I’m now probably going to leave simyo after one month of my contract (thankfully i chose monthly) because I feel really sour about this. So this 50 euro charge is essentially going to cost them a customer.

Hello @easye,

Thank you for your message. I can imagine you were shocked by the out-of-bundle charges!

It is indeed true that you receive an email when you have activated the SIM card, however, this does not mean that the bundles are active immediately but I understand your confusion. It is therefore also important to read all emails carefully. We have sent you 3 emails in which it is stated that the bundles become active as soon as your number is transferred to us and that you should not use our SIM card before that time. This can be found in the first mail ''Je inloggegevens voor Mijn Simyo'', in the second mail ''Je Simyo simkaart is geactiveerd!'' and in the third mail ''Je aanvraag voor nummerbehoud is goedgekeurd!''

Should you still use the SIM card before the number to be retained is transferred you will pay the out-of-bundle rate of €0,15 per mb and €0,31 per minute you call.

I took a quick look at the connection and I see that you have been helped by a colleague. Glad that a compensation was possible! Hopefully that makes up for it a bit.

If you have any other questions, please let me know 😊.

Greetings,
Amy
