Unjustified data bundle charges (€597.43) from a repeating pattern of 59 MB units

On 25 July 2026, my account was charged €597.43 for 9,776 MB of mobile data usage. Looking at the itemized breakdown, I see a very specific and repeating pattern: continuous units of almost exactly 59 MB, roughly once per minute, over more than 40 minutes straight.

What makes this especially notable: the same pattern already occurred on 19 July 2026 (from 19:12 to 19:56, 44 minutes), that time still within my bundle and therefore free. On 25 July (19:44 to 20:27), however, this pushed me outside my bundle, and each 59 MB unit was billed separately at €8.79.

I was not actively using my phone during either of these windows. A sustained data stream of roughly 1 MB per second, at nearly the same time in the evening on two separate dates, doesn't look like normal usage to me.

I also notice that around 20:09–20:14 on 25 July, several identical 59 MB units alternate between €0.00 and roughly €8.79 at the same or adjacent timestamps — which looks to me like an error in the billing right around the point my bundle ran out.

I've seen this exact pattern (repeated ~59 MB units billed at €8.79 each) mentioned in other posts on this forum, so I suspect this may be a broader issue.

I've already filed a formal complaint by email with the full logs attached, and my number is currently blocked as a precaution. Could someone from Simyo Webcare take a look at this quickly? I'm happy to share my account details via private message.

Hello @KhaledA,

Thank you for your message. I understand that you are shocked by these high costs.

To avoid extra costs we always send two warning messages. One when the internetbundle is used for 80% and one when the interntbundle is fully used. If no action is taken after these warnings and internet usage is registered on the simcard you will pay €0,15 per MB. Good to see that you already put on a datalimit. This will be active on the 1st of august! I see that you already had contact with our customes service and that they gave you a compensation about the costs that were made.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

This forum is not monitored by Simyo during weekends, if the matter is urgent you could get in touch with them via WhatsApp (https://www.simyo.nl/klantenservice). BTW, and just for information, mobile data usage is registered by Simyo in chunks of ca. 59MB, that’s why you see the repeated 59MB pattern.

I’m sure Simyo will offer a solution that is agreeable to both parties.

What model phone are you using? Was it by any chance connected to a computer (perhaps for charging) and/or did it have hotspot enabled?

The 59 MB is the session limit, when it’s hit a new ‘session’ is started, so that’s ‘normal’ when you’re using more than 59 MB within about 8 hours.

Simyo charges 150 euro per GB outside of your bundle..

At peak 5G speeds that’s about 50 euro per second.

which looks to me like an error in the billing right around the point my bundle ran out.

I think the lines without cost were within the bundle, the ones outside weren’t.

Hope Simyo support can help you.
