Unable to receive code in the USA with my Simyo number - can I still activate a USA bundle or roaming?

Hi everyone,

I currently have a Simyo Dutch number and I am temporarily in the United States for a few days. I will come back to the Netherlands in September, that’s why I’m paying my dutch number as always even though I can’t use it in the moment here in the US, as here I just had planned getting a cheap eSIM American number from Walmart. 

Today though, WhatsApp (which has my Dutch number) requested that I verify my account and is sending the verification code to my Dutch Simyo number. Unfortunately, because again I’m outside the NL and didn’t add any bubble before leaving, I am not receiving any SMS messages or calls on this number while in the US.

I saw that Simyo does have USA included in one of the bundles, but that the USA bundle and roaming options seem to require activation via SMS instructions, and from what I understand this is normally done while still in the Netherlands before traveling, after which then you follow the instructions once you arrive in the destination country. Since I’m  already in the USA and currently cannot receive SMS messages on my Simyo number, I’m worried that I may now be stuck in a situation where I cannot receive the WhatsApp verification code or activate the necessary roaming options. WhatsApp literally has be block right now until I add the code.

So, my questions are:

• Is it still possible to activate a USA bundle or international roaming after already arriving in the US?

• Is receiving SMS messages in the US dependent on having a bundle active, or should SMS reception work regardless?

• Are there any settings on my account or SIM that could prevent receiving SMS abroad?

• Has anyone experienced this issue before and found a solution?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as at the moment I cannot access my WhatsApp account because the verification code is being sent to my Dutch number.
