I travelled by ferry between Newcastle and Ijmuiden recently. I got a warning text from Simyo to say I was on a maritime network with high costs, so I immediately switched onto airplane mode. When I could see the port of Ijmuiden, I switched back on and saw that I had a 4G signal from the land, so I started replying to my messages.
Imagine my shock when I got another sms to say I'd used 48 Euro in data costs, which was more than 50 when I got my invoice. All this while we were in touching distance of the port at Ijmuiden.
My question is how I can be charged such a high amount when I waited until I had 4G before using my mobile phone. This is quite shocking and very disappointing.
